NOON or midday is a word that describes the moment in the day that is neither morning nor evening, a form of middle ground. The word itself is a palindrome, reading the same forward and backward, upside down and right side up, further fulfilling a sense of neutrality.

Led by the understanding that one only exists because of its antipode, I probe into the opposites in hope to discover a balance. In my attempt to find a neutral and stable form, I use natural materials, such as glass, salts, water, and the body, observing the mediums’ transmutation as a symbol for the complex and shifting nature of reality.

The fictional narrative of NOON is inspired by the upstate NY history and geology, the influence and presence of water and salt in the region and the ongoing conflicts between different groups of the population. The project draws from the past events in nature and how they shape the present landscape of the area, as a symbolical rendering of the tensions of the social human landscape of the region and their stories that tied into nature and resources.

In 2016 I was invited to a residency at Corning Inc. Science and Research Center. For the next six months, I traveled to Corning for one week every month. During my 2018 Sculpture Space residency, I finished filming the video, both inside the studio and during my field trips to the Finger Lakes region, the Adirondacks, Saratoga Springs, and Lake Ontario. Although the project is directly linked to the observations, the story is my response to the impressions generated during these two years.
