Book of Breath (NooN)

2022
At first glance, the book appears transparent. As the reader raises the book to their face, the heat and moisture of their breath reveals the invisible words.
Reading requires the presence and breath of the reader, creating an interaction that activates and complicates the connection between the reader and book, audience and object, knowledge, and vessel.

 Two lovers of different preference

Is the time before and after noon.

NooN, the title of the book and the poem contained, is a palindrome - the same backwards as forwards. The poem talks about intersexuality, gender fluidity, invisibility, and the softening of borders.

The Book of Breath (NOON) combines cutting edge technology with painstaking craft work to produce an invisible book of invisible writing.
Produced partially during my Corning Inc. Specialty Glass residency the book of breath uses an experimental hydrophobic coating printed onto laser cut 0.5mm thick Gorilla Glass. These parts were assembled and bound by hand using a special UV stable transparent tape.
A glass case was fabricated from laminated layers of 3mm Gorilla glass laser cut into exceptionally delicate 3mm frames.
